On Friday 1st December 2023 officers from Worksop South Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a Night Time Economy operation in Worksop town centre focusing on preventing the use/possession of drugs in local venues.

The aim of the operation is to prevent potential violent disorder later on in the evening by locating and removing any persons in possession or under the influence of drugs when attending venues.

Officers in partnership with a local venue had a condition of entry of completing a hand swab for analysis for anyone wishing to attend the venue. The swab was analysed through an Itemiser machine which detects if there are any drug remnants on the persons hands.

Officers conducted this analysis on people wishing to enter the venue, this was well received by members of the public and there were no positive identifications for drugs.

We hope to conduct this operation on a regular basis over weekends and will be speaking to other venues in Worksop to partake and support.
