Trading Standards in the execution of a warrant on a business premise on Carlton Road, Worksop

On Tuesday 7th May 2024, Officers from Worksop South Neighbourhood Policing Team assisted Trading Standards in the execution of a warrant on a business premise on Carlton Road, Worksop. The premise was suspected to be involved in the sale of illicit tobacco, cigarettes and illegal vape products.

During the search of the premise, over £7000.00 worth of illegal tobacco products and vapes were seized.

Illegal tobacco has all the harmful properties of legal tobacco but is completely unregulated and sold much cheaper than legal tobacco. The sale of cheap or illegal tobacco makes it easier for children and young people to start smoking and get addicted at a young age. Some cigarettes are not fire safe. Unlike legal cigarettes, they do not extinguish by themselves if left unattended. This makes them more likely to cause a fire.

Illegal vapes pose a serious health risk within our communities and can be extremely dangerous, they can have higher levels of nicotine along with harmful or unknown chemicals in them because they are not regulated or tested. Identifying illegal disposable vapes can be challenging but any vape over 2ml – 600 puffs is illegal.
